Dear Lovely Newcomers!
We are glad to offer a new activity this month, our Walking Group, to meet on TUES Dec 6. We hope to offer it monthly depending on interest. Also, join us for our winter holiday party we dubbed Cocktails & Confections (for reasons we hope are clear) on SAT Dec 17. If you did not already receive your email invitation, please let April know at asmithziegler@gmail.com.

We are sorry to see Liz Murray leave our board because of an illness in the family. We wish her well and hope to see her at our events. Liz was in charge of Membership and Lunch Bunch. See our “Help Wanted” section for details on these two open positions.

We hope you enjoy our December activities. And as always, we welcome you to email us with questions and suggestions.

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is the coming-of-age story of young, sensitive, and idealistic Francie Nolan and her bittersweet formative years in the turn-of-the-century Williamsburg slums of Brooklyn. This poignant and moving classic of American literature is filled with compassion and cruelty, laughter and heartache, crowded with life and incident.

Walking Group (weather permitting)

Come walking with us on  Lexington’s famous bike path and chat away the calories. You won’t even notice you’re exercising. We will walk for about an hour, then convene at Starbucks for deserved refreshment. Dress in layers.
TUES Dec 6 @ 9:00am (please be prompt)
Meeting Spot:
Starbucks (on Bedford St. in Lexington, next to Walgreens). Look for us at the entrance to Starbucks. We will cross the street to the bike path behind Neilios.
RSVP: email Deb Zucker at debbra.zucker@gmail.com to exchange cell phone numbers. We must be able to contact you in the morning in case of a weather cancellation or unexpected delay.

Lunch Bunch

WED Dec 21 @ 12:30pm
Artistry on the Green: 2027 Massachusetts Ave., Lexington.
RSVP: email asmithziegler@gmail.com

At Artistry on the Green, inside The Inn At Hastings Park, we are passionate about food. We use fresh, seasonal ingredients to create delicious menus that showcase New England favorites with an inspired twist. Boston magazine’s Best of Boston 2016-Best Restaurant, General Excellence, West of Boston.

Bunco! (& Left-Right-Center)

TUES Dec 13
7:30pm—schmoozing begins
8:15pm
—gameplay begins
Bring: $5 ante for Bunco; $3 for L-R-C (exact change appreciated!); and a beverage or snack to share.
RSVP: email kessacoleman@gmail.com for location details.

About the Games:

Bunco is an entertaining, simple dice game, with no experience required. It’s played in multiple rounds with players alternating turns rolling the dice to match the target number. Whoever wins the most rounds is the overall winner. And because players rotate tables, it is a great way to meet and chat with different people. Left-Right-Center is an even simpler game, faster moving than Bunco, and is played at the end of the evening. Did we mention there’s no experience required?

Cocktails & Confections ! (A Winter Holiday Party)

CHECK YOUR EMAIL FOR INVITATION!
SAT Dec 17

Celebrate your favorite winter holiday with us and share a customary cocktail or dessert from your culture (or just something you like)!
RSVP via the invitation sent to your email.

The Girls By Emma Cline
Northern California, during the violent end of the 1960s. At the start of summer, a lonely and thoughtful teen, Evie Boyd, sees a group of girls in the park, and is immediately caught by their freedom, their careless dress, their dangerous aura of abandon. Soon, Evie is fascinated with Suzanne, a mesmerizing older girl, and is drawn into the circle of a soon-to-be infamous cult and the man who is its charismatic leader. Hidden in the hills, their ranch is eerie and run down, but to Evie, it is exotic, thrilling—a place where she feels desperate to be accepted. As her obsession with Suzanne intensifies, Evie does not realize she is coming closer and closer to unthinkable violence.
